Red Bull Racing begins layoffs

Red Bull Racing, whose owners announced in June that they planned to sell the team or shut down after the 2011 season, began laying off the majority of shop employees Thursday.

Employees had been told prior to the end of the season that the shop would remain open through this week as the Austrian beverage company looks for investors.

Red Bull Racing had filed a notice with the state of North Carolina that it would lay off approximately 152 employees this month, and according to tweets from employees and sources, today was the last day for most of the people who work in the shop.

Red Bull Racing opened in 2007. It has two Cup wins, one with driver Brian Vickers at Michigan in August 2009 and one with Kasey Kahne at Phoenix this year. Vickers made the Chase in 2009, but struggled to a 25th-place finish in points this season.

Kahne, who had a one year deal with the team before moving to Hendrick Motorsports next season, finished 14th in points this year. Vickers currently does not have a Cup ride for next season.source
