Beach volleyball a smash hit

Beach volleyball courses organised by the Newcastle United Foundation are proving to be a big hit.

As part of the Premier League 4 Sport project, courses at Tynemouth Long Sands are open to boys and girls aged seven to 14 years of age of any playing ability.

The first course that has just ended saw 39 children over two days take part in fun activities on the beach.

Three of those children were twins Audrey and Auroie who are eight years old and their older sister Arielle Sobngwi who is 10 years old. The three sisters live in Cameroon but are visiting England for four weeks due to there father's work commitments.

fantastic experience

Mum Joelle Sobngwi said: "It has been a fantastic experience for the three girls to take part in the beach volleyball as they have never done anything like this before.

"They have really enjoyed learning how to play the game as they have never done it before but more importantly it has allowed them to meet new friends which also helps them with learning to speak English.

"I would like to thank Newcastle United Foundation for giving my daughters the opportunity to do this."

Premier League 4 Sport Co-ordinator Lisa Bell said: "We decided to run a beach volleyball course as it would be a shame not to utilise the fantastic beaches we have in the North East.

"More importantly I think it is more appealing for children to be outdoors on the beach rather than in a sports hall as that is what they are used to at school. To have the three sisters from Cameroon taking part has been excellent and we now look forward to the next two courses."source http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2412770,00.html
