Tempur-Pedic Comfort Travel Pillows for soldiers

In June, Bill and Barbara Simpson, owners of three Relax The Back stores in Austin, TX, were part of an effort that donated 450 Tempur-Pedic Comfort Travel Pillows to soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan. The soldiers, many of whom are serving their third and fourth tours of duty, are members of the Ft. Hood 2nd Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, known as the Phantom Trackers of Fort Hood.

Relax The Back is continuing its tradition of lending a helping hand to those in need.

“We owe the men and women who serve our country so much,” Bill said. “Providing them with a more comfortable way to sleep is the least we can do.”

In March, the Simpsons were contacted by an organization called Operation: Pray Me Home with a “Wish List” of items soldiers would like to have while on duty. The No. 1 item on the list was a small pillow. For soldiers who often have to sleep in crowded airports, on the ground, or in other inhospitable environments, it’s easy to see why.

Tempur-Pedic also played an integral role in the contribution. The mattress company donated the travel pillows to the soldiers of the, who met the Simpsons at a deployment party in June. The soldiers, many of them serving their third and fourth tours of duty, were thrilled and thankful that Relax The Back and Tempur-Pedic supported them.

“We’re glad that we can contribute,” Bill said. “We take small creature comforts like pillows for granted sometimes, but they can mean so much; especially to our brave servicemen and women.”

Earlier this year, Relax The Back and Tempur-Pedic partnered up to provide $50,000 in Tempur-Pedic mattresses to the US Rowing Team. Relax The Back got involved after the Oklahoma City branch discovered that many members of the team were sleeping on air mattresses.

“Tempur-Pedic and Relax The Back understand the benefits of restorative sleep on overall health,” said Denise Vladovich, a representative for the Oklahoma City store. “We hope our contribution will benefit the US Rowing Team as they go for the gold.”
