People always ask me how long it takes to became a good comic artist. How long does it take to learn how to draw characters for illustrations or other projects?

But what they Don't realize is that learning how to draw depends much more on the desire to learn the art than in some born talent. You may be the next Stan Lee, but if don't practice and study, just like in any other profession is more likely that you will never develop the necessary skills to be proficient.

I know people that started with no experience and 6 months later of my classes had learned so much that made easy to find a job doing illustration designs, but those people really had a passion for the art, and the desire necessary to keep learning.

The problem that makes the process of learning how to draw a matter of personal effort is that is not our brain who have to assimilate the information, but our perception instead. We need to develop a keen eye for human anatomy, proportion and facial expressions just to list a few of the study subjects, also your technique should be as solid as a rock. But if you are one of those who really want to learn how to draw characters my best advice will always be: practice, study and them practice some more...them repeat the process all over again, ;-). There is also great resource available now days on the Internet, many great books on the market that makes a lot easier and faster than a few years ago.

In conclusion, stop asking if you are to old to start the process or if you have time enough to study, and start asking yourself if you have the passion and desire to learn this wonderful art form; because if you do have, there is nothing in this world to stop you from reaching your objectives.
