Air Quality Advisory For Excessive Levels of Ozone

Also, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency has issued an Air Quality Advisory for excessive levels of ozone. This advisory is for all of Northeast Ohio for Wednesday and for at-risk persons. Among them are the very young, the elderly and those with breathing difficulties. These groups should limit their outdoor activity.

As for the remainder of today, a flood warning remains in place for the upper Cuyahoga River near Independence only in Cuyahoga County.

Today’s high will increase to near 90 degrees and then climb into the low- to mid-90s for Wednesday through Friday. A heat index in triple digits is also possible during this period.

And the high temperatures will moderate only slightly from Saturday through the first part of the week. The National Weather Service’s forecast is calling for the mid- to upper-80s and, as a result, above the long-term seasonal average.

The weekly crop weather report and issued by the U.S. and Ohio departments of agriculture says that while the majority of farms are experiencing “adequate” soil moisture content a near equal number were experiencing either a “very short” or a “surplus” amount of soil moisture content.

And the tardiness of being able to sow crops has appeared in the progress of crop development. Only 7 percent of the state’s corn crop has developed tassels and compared to the long-term average of 41 percent.

Much the same can be said for the harvesting of summer variety of apples and the ripening of oats though the harvesting of peaches is ahead of this fruit’s long-term average. Continued...
