Woman died after a train in Wellington struck her

Sgt. Eric Buller of the Hutchinson Police Department said Aaron Decker died at about 12:45 a.m. at the scene. Buller said a northbound Union Pacific train struck and killed Decker as Decker was crossing the tracks on foot.

Later Saturday morning, an elderly woman died after a train in Wellington struck her while she was crossing some tracks between the 500 and 600 blocks of South Washington Avenue.

Wellington Police Capt. Bill Upton said the accident happened at about 8:50 a.m.. The train was heading east into Wellington at a slow speed, Upton said, because "it was getting ready to stop in Wellington."

The woman did not have any identification on her, Upton said, and investigators were working to identify her and notify family members.
