Warrior Dash for runners challenge

I feel like I am loosing my mind. A few years ago, I took up running. It is something that not only helps me maintain my weight and overall health, but running also does things that no other exercise has ever done for me. It tests my emotional strength. People don't understand why in the world someone would want to run for so long that they are in pain the next day. You can only understand these things if you are a runner. There is something about pushing your physical being to the limit where there is no more and needing to find the strength to still make it to the finish line. When you are able to do that, it makes you stronger as a person and gives you the confidence to get through other things in life because you know you can be pushed to the limit and still come out strong. You might hurt a bit, but you still make it.

I regularly participate in anything from a 5k to a half-marathon. I even managed a triathlon a year and a half ago. Each race I do is different and I must train differently based on the distance of the race or in the case of the triathlon balancing out my strengths and weakness' to know what event to train more or less on and have a strategy. As time goes on, I am more willing to push myself and know what I do not want to do because sometimes working on my weaknesses and the things I wasn't cut out to do takes too much time away from the areas that I am good at and would like to improve on.

I have now been presented with a new challenge in the physical arena that will be one of the crazier things I have attempted, but will be fun as well. I signed up to do the Warrior Dash. It is a 3-mile race, which is certainly manageable, but it comes with a twist. There are challenges along the way such as the wicked windstorm where you get massive amounts of air blown at you, the knee high hill in which you have to make it through hundreds of tires, and deadweight drifter which you are challenged to go through waist deep water and over logs. Now my disadvantage is I am a short adult and I am sure I will have a hard time getting past the air tunnel and waist high water for some is higher on me.

Training for this race will be like no other race I have trained for. Some of the challenges require a strong upper body, which I do not have. I will also need to mentally prepare for things I haven't done before like the cliffhanger where you rappel down a ravine, which is something that makes me nervous.

I will be participating in this race with my husband as well as friends from our church. If anything, this will be one of the more unique social events we have done. Nonetheless, I have a few months to get ready and to train. We'll see how it goes. I can't back out now because I have already registered and paid. I am too cheap to not do it, so now I have to find it within me to be as ready as I can.
