Hindu New Year is celebrated on Chaitra Pratipada (first day in bright half of Chaitra month). In 2011, Hindu New Year date is 4 April, Monday. It is Kharanama samvatsara Hindu year (2011-2012). In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka this festival is celebrated as Ugadi. Marathi people celebrated it as Gudi Padwa. In Kashmir, it is popular as Navreh. In North Indian states, Nav Varsh is celebrated. It is a big festival to all those who follow lunar Hindu calendar (Chandramana Panchangam either Purnimant or Amavasyant). Cheti Chand or Sindhi New Year is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Dwitiya. In 2011, it is on 5 April. In Goa, Chandramana Ugadi is famously celebrated as Sanvar Padwa or Samvatsar Padvo.
The year 2011-2012 is Vikram Samvat 2068 year (Vikramarka shaka), Shalivahana Shaka 1933 year, Kaliyuga shaka or Krishna samvatsar 5112, Sapath Rishi Samvat 5087 (Saptarshi rishi shaka), Saura Samvatsara 1404-05, Shankaracharya Avatara Shaka 2082, Madhvacharya Avatara Shaka 897, Sri Ramanuja Avatara shaka 994, Bharat Svatantra shaka 64, and Prabhavadhi Gathabdha 24.
Saura Samvatsara Ugadi (Solar Hindu New Year day) is celebrated on Mesha Sankranti in Tamil Nadu and Kerala as Chithirai Vishu and Vishu respectively. In 2011, Saura Ugadi falls on April 14. Bengali New Year 2011 (Bengali Year 1418) falls on 15 April 2011. On the same day, Assamese New Year (Bohag Bihu) is also celebrated.
