Five years ago, the future of the Royal Park site was in limbo.
The museum had moved to a second site at Inveresk, and maintaining two sites was a serious question for the Launceston City Council.
After much public discussion and consultation, the doors to the Royal Park Campus of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Galley were closed three years ago for renovations.
The renovations are complete. All that is left to do is display the city's prized art collections.
But before that, the council invited the public to a once in a lifetime experience ... just one weekend to see the building "naked".
The exposed ceiling, the natural light, the baltic floors and the "reopened" front windows are just some of the new experiences within the building.
An estimated 2,000 people made good use of the only public viewing weekend to see for themselves the clean fresh lines of the ten galleries within the building.
ABC Drive had a seek peek at the building on Friday before the public were admitted.
