There's been so much in the News these last weeks about a particular Phone Hacking Scandal.
It's involved the tabloid press, the royal family...this couldn't be more high profile right now.
It's a hot topic, no mistake.
The trouble is, with so much being written and in the news, how do you find the truth?
How does it work? ---(shock/horror!!) how could you do it if you needed to??
Now I'm not advocating anything illegal or immoral. Far from it. There are uses for this software that do not break the law and may just save a life, a relationship, a business..
Here's a couple of examples---
One young mum I'm thinking of was able to track down and prosecute drug-dealing bullies persecuting her child. This is not immoral, it's just personal.
A friend (let's call him Geoff) thought his girl was cheating. She was out late, distracted...anyway he ran the software (he didn't feel good about it but, hey, no sleep and paranoia wasn't really working for him either...!)
This one ends happily - she'd found a long-lost sister, not a secret lover. She never knew, he removed the bug and...well, perhaps it changed him a bit. Geoff's outlook became less suspicious and the relationship more trusting....this is not wrong either in my opinion. It's certainly not against the law. Now if she'd found out she may not have liked it. - (because the software is completely undetectable this was never a possibility...)
So what exactly can so-called spyware do?
Well, if you can get your hands on it the best tech will give you the following:
access to conversations in realtime (listen-in)
bug the environment (really - CIA style!)
watch stored videos
read all in- and out-going sms
phonebook access so you can link names with numbers
call records (times, dates...)..
You get the picture..
It works like this:
1)get 'bug' software.)
2) install on your phone that's being used by another (remember we're doing this legally!)
3)"log-in" to the phone from any internet terminal in the world.
