After losing a foot race, Jesse Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) becomes quick friends with Leslie Burke (AnnaSophia Robb), the new girl who beat him. As the pair spends more time together, they begin to build an imaginary world of monsters, trolls, ogres, and giants of which they are the king and queen.
