Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor may be 93, but her feisty spirit was uncowed on Sunday as she headed to the hospital to have her leg amputated, reports Reuters. A sore on Gabor's right leg had turned gangrenous, necessitating a trip to the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles for surgery on Sunday.
As doctors informed her of the need for the operation to save her life, Gabor was "screaming and yelling" about the prospect of missing out on her traditional champagne and caviar New Year's celebration, said her ninth husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt. This is not the first time the Hungarian star has voiced such complaints.
In 1989 she went to jail for slapping a policeman and emerged voicing her displeasure at the jailhouse cuisine. Gabor is known for starring in Moulin Rouge and other hits of the 1950s, and for greeting her Hollywood peers as "dah-ling".
