Tory Burch talked about her life in front of an audience at FIAF in New York City

Burch talked about her life and work in front of an audience at FIAF in New York City Wednesday night, during which moderator Pamela Golbin (fashion curator at the Louvre) asked her about her life and business. Burch said she was toying with the idea, not that she would actually do it, but she did say it would be inspired by her father’s style.

Burch’s father, Buddy Robinson, was a wealthy Philadelphia investor. We can’t find too many pictures of him, but in the ones we have seen, he looks like he has his stuff together. Burch didn’t confirm (or deny) that she would be doing the line on the show, which of course is wise if she’s still not sure.

We don’t doubt that Burch could make good clothes in her dad’s clothes’ image — what we doubt is whether or not any guys would wear them. Her brand as it is is very girly, because she’s designing for a very feminine woman who loves pattern and color. Her clothes are going to have to look enough like her in order for her to maintain a sense of brand continuity, but masculine enough so that guys will actually shell out for the clothes.

We were also momentarily concerned about a men’s clothing line named Tory Burch, but then we remembered that there are guys who wear the mess out of DKNY (Donna Karan), Vivienne Westwood, Lilly Pulitzer and Unis (Eunice Lee), so we guess that wouldn’t really be too much of a problem.
