
Mulay made her debut as a 16 year old, in Mrinal Sen’s national award winning film Bhuvan Shome (1969). In spite of the film’s immense success, the beautiful actress shocked fans when she took a hiatus from acting. She went abroad to study and then returned to assist Oscar winning filmmaker Satyajit Ray on his films.

Mulay said in a candid interview that she and her husband were Facebook friends first, and before they dated, she even crosschecked his credentials on Google to be sure that he was not a fake. The sexagenarian couple started chatting in July, last year. After bonding on World Wide Web, the couple met for the first time in November 2010. Gurtu is a widower, his wife of 36 years succumbed to cancer a few years ago.
Facebook Friend & Husband: Atul Gurtu Funnily, when Mulay mentioned her marriage plans to her mother, she thought she was talking about getting married in a serial or film. Her sister accused Mulay of being drunk and by the end of their conversation, she wanted a drink herself.
Mulay, who has never been married before, was in a live-in relationship that ended in 1990 and has been living alone for the last 20 years. Mulay and Gurtu had a civil marriage at the Bandra court, Mumbai, and later had an Arya Samaj wedding on January 16th 2011.
