Weather service: Snow could be Chicago’s 3rd worst – KWQC 6

CHICAGO (AP) – The National Weather Service states Chicago could in for its third worst blizzard since snowfall accounting began.

Meteorologist Charles Mott states 20 inches are forecast at O’Hare International Airport for Tuesday and Wednesday. O’Hare is the official measurement spot for the city.

If the forecast holds true, that would make it the city’s third biggest snowstorm, overshadowed only by the 21.6 inches in 1999 and the mom of all Chicago snowstorms, the 23 inches of snow that fell in 1967. There have been 43 winter storms that produced 10 inches or more of snow in Chicago since snow records began in 1886.

The weather service states this blizzard could be life-threatening. The storm could bring white-out conditions, with snow falling at rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour.
