Follow @Zap2itAndrea on TwitterThe 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show kicked off Monday night (Feb. 14) in New York City. The first night of programming featured the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding groups.
In the Hound group, the dogs brought out are the 15" Beagle, the Wirehaired Dachshund, the Irish Wolfhound, the Greyhound, the Norwegian Elkhound, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, the Deerhound and the Whippet. The top four (in order) are the Scottish Deerhound, the Beagle, the Norwegian Elkhound and the PBGV.
We were rooting for the PBGV, but really only because it's fun to say and not because we know much about breed standards. There was no love for the two new breeds in the Hound group, the Bluetick Coonhound and Redbone Coonhound. They were pretty dogs, though.
In the Toy group, the dogs pulled out were the Affenpinscher, the Japanese Chin, the Miniature Pinscher, the Papillon, the Pekingese, the Pomeranian, the Toy Poodle and the Pug. The four brought out in order were the Pekingese, the Affenpinscher the Pug and the Japanese Chin. We were tickled to see Malachy the Pekingese win because that means we get to see that furry little ball waddle again tomorrow night in the Best in Show competition.
In the Non-Sporting group, the Bichon Frise, the Bulldog, the Shar-Pei, the Keeshond, the Lhasa Apso, the Miniature Poodle, the Standard Poodle and the Schipperke were brought out. The final four were (in order), the Shar-Pei, the Bichon Frise, the Lhasa Apso and the Keeshond.
The final group of the night was Herding. The dogs brought down were the Bearded Collie, the Belgian Tervuren, the Border Collie, the Briard, the Rough Collie and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. The final four in order were the Bearded Collie, the Belgian Tervuren, the Border Collie and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
