By Peter Gaston It's been nearly three years since Meg White's anxiety issues forced the White Stripes to cancel their tour plans behind their sixth album, Icky Thump, but Jack White says his bandmate/ex-wife is on the road to recovery and the duo might live again.
“I would like to [reconvene the band]," Jack told the Times of London. "I don’t think [Meg's] anxiety exists any more... She was there when we were rehearsing for the Dead Weather.... She ’s still involved and everything, but we’ve never sat down and gone: ‘OK, so don’t forget to block out three months.' Although we never did that, even in the thick of the craziness of the White Stripes."
Aside from the recent release of the tour documentary, Under Great White Northern Lights (which touched on Meg's increasingly crippling anxiety), the White Stripes have remained essentially dormant since late 2007. But Jack's been consistently in the spotlight with his other bands, the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, who just played Coachella and will release their SPIN-approved sophomore album next week. He's also opened a compound for Third Man Records imprint in Nashville and produced the debut album by his wife, Karen Elson.
Meg, meanwhile, married guitarist Jackson Smith last year -- in Jack's garden -- but has been away from the limelight.
