Third-placed City trail the Red Devils by five points and have played a game more, but Sir Alex Ferguson’s side still have big matches to play; against Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as two fixtures against Chelsea. A win for the Citizens would preserve this intriguing three-way title chase and give the Gunners an opportunity to close the gap as they are currently United’s nearest challengers.
City and United drew 0-0 at Eastlands in November but Roberto Mancini’s men will be flush with confidence with their recent 3-0 win over West Brom. However, Italian striker Mario Balotelli is still recovering from injury, while Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong is also in doubt after hurting his ankle last week. Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez, on the other hand, are both fit for the derby.
United fans, meanwhile, will have to cope without Rio Ferdinand who will be sidelined due to a calf problem. Darren Fletcher is still a doubt but Park Ji-Sung is fit to play.
All eyes will be on Dimitar Berbatov as he goes up against his former teammate, Tevez. Berbatov leads the scoring charts in the EPL but I think Tevez is the better all-round player. The 27-year-old Argentine striker goes to Old Trafford looking for his 50th goal in all competitions.
