SINGAPORE: Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Members of Parliament joined residents, grassroots leaders and volunteers of Marine Parade Town on Sunday morning picking up trash and spreading an important message.
Mr Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Mountbatten, said: "We want to give the Kindness Movement a booster, and so we give the cleaners a chance to have a break. At the same time, it also allows the local MP to walk around the estate, pick up the litter, and from here we'll understand how dirty the place is.
"We also want to send a message that we need everyone to do their part to keep the place litter-free. As we walked around, we actually saw a lot of litter, and so we're just wondering, if everyone does his part... this whole place will be much, much cleaner."
Ms Tin Pei Ling, MP for Marine Parade GRC, said: "Regardless of how much the cleaners can do, they can't be there 24/7 and therefore, this environment is shared - it's a shared home. We must do our part to also look out for one another, refrain from littering, and if we see something, let's pick it up and put it into the dustbin."
MPs and volunteers put up posters at Marine Terrace Block 50A Market and Food Centre to remind patrons to return their used crockery and trays to the collection point.
