Justin Bieber Games

WORCESTER — Campers dipping into a wading pool of cooked spaghetti and pouring the pasta over their heads shouted with glee at the Variety Club Camp's 11th annual Annie Madden Sunshine Games on Friday.

A small, motorized train was a big hit, giving campers rides around the 80-plus-acre camp off Potshop Road. Some of the Phillies Ballgirls were on hand to play wiffle ball and hand out baseball cards. And campers eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Phanatic and Swoop, the Phillies and Eagles mascots.

"It's a fun place to go," said Dave, 16, of Horsham, about the camp, where he's been a camper since 2004. He particularly likes to play golf and swim in the pool.

Another camper, Dean, 17, of Yardley, liked the field games, computers and swimming. He's been coming to the Variety Club Camp since he "was little."

He was looking forward to a talent show the campers planned for their parents on Saturday and planned to sing some Justin Bieber songs.

After Annie died, people who read the obituary gave money and they donated to the Variety Club in her memory and decided it would be nice to have a day of fun in her honor for both campers and counselors.

The Sunshine Games became an annual event. "We're just happy to be part of it. They've done such a great job. It's a fun day for us too. It's a nice way to remember Annie," he said.

Becca Williams, of Pipersville, one of the Phillies Ballgirls, said her group goes to many events in the community and were there with the Phillies Harmony Fan Club to play with the youngsters. Continued...
