Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a very common eye problem. The main symptoms of pink eye are listed below. Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva membrane, and can usually be treated easily.

Here are the pink eye symptoms you can plainly see:

1.The first sign of pink eye is usually a sudden redness or pinkish color showing up in the white of the eye
2. Puffiness of the surrounding eyelids or a "swollen eyelid" appearance
3. Excess discharge coming from the eyes, or crust around the edges of the eye
4. Watering or tearing of the eye

The pink eye symptoms that you feel include:

1.Feeling that there's a foreign body in your eye
2. Itchiness or irritation of the eye and eyelids
3.A slight stinging pain
4. Sensitivity to light

Pink eye usually lasts about a week, and infects more people during the cold and flu season. Many people come in contact with the pink eye virus and don't notice the symptoms until 24 - 72 hours later! Even though it takes a while for the signs of conjunctivitis to show, it's wise to treat the cause and symptoms at the very first sign.

I feel the best way to treat pink eye is with the methods found here. You should also use a warm washcloth to alleviate discomfort and cleanse the eye of discharge. The most important tip though, is to wash your hands thoroughly and take every possible precaution to avoid spreading the infection.

Pink eye is usually pretty harmless, but it's always better to avoid getting it in the first place! Remember to keep your hands to yourself during conjunctivitis "peak times" so that you won't have to deal with the unpleasant pink eye symptoms.
