Adam Lambert Top 8 performance show

"The Voice" contestant Nakia Reynoso from Team Cee Lo took on Adam Lambert's "Whataya Want From Me" during Tuesday (June 21) night's Top 8 performance show.

He became the second "The Voice" contestant to sing a song from an "American Idol" alum after ousted hopeful Jeff Jenkins performed Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel" last week.

Nakia admitted that he wasn't excited about performing the song at first after Cee Lo informed him of his selection, but he eventually warmed up to the song and said that he could relate to the lyrics.

He started the performance behind the piano before swiftly kicking the bench and making his way towards the crowd while keeping things relatively simple.

The 36-year-old Alabama native received praised for his performance from the judges, including Maroon 5's Adam Levine who said that he had never heard the song before.

Lambert, meanwhile, seemed to take the comments in stride, tweeting, “Yeah Nakia! Saaaang boy!! Great performance. I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah.”

After seing how outraged some of his fans were about Levine's remarks, the pop singer reiterated that there was nothing to be angry about.

“But for the record, Im def a Maroon 5 fan,” he wrote. “Fans: there is NO reason to be angry. Thanks for being protective but it's all good. :)”

While Nakia has been a consistent favorite, he faces stiff competition from fellow Team Cee Lo member Vicci Martinez, whose take on Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" was deemed the best performance of the night by the coaches.

"The Voice" will announce the Top 4 finalists Wednesday (June 22) after the viewers' votes and judges' scores are added together to determine the top member from each team. Those singers will move on to compete on next Tuesday's episode, and the winner will be announced Wed., June 29 live on NBC.
