The rumors are false, insist officials for the U.S. Postal Service. Not only will the office remain open, but the operating hours will remain the same.
“The Yardley station is a small finance office – this means there are no carriers – with only one employee,” said Cathy Yarosky, spokeswoman for the Postal Service Philadelphia region. “The person who is responsible for this station is the postmaster of the Morrisville Post Office, which means that the Yardley station is part of the Morrisville Post Office (in Falls), kind of like a ‘branch’ of the Morrisville Post Office.”
“In order to do this, he must close the retail window since he’s the only person there. This usually takes place between 9:15 and 10 a.m., depending on the volume. The office is also closed for lunch between 1 and 2:15 p.m. every day.”
The Yardley branch on South Main Street is housed in a brick Colonial Revival building that also contains borough hall. The building was constructed in 1916.
