Movie Poster that were part of that Multimillion-Dollar sale on eBay

"Up for sale are 7 posters that constitute arguably the greatest movie poster collection in the world. Certainly, one could not say that they have the greatest science fiction collection without them. Each poster is unique and the only copy known to exist. All 7 of these posters transcend the movie poster field."

Big words for a humble eBay auction page, but the final sale price of $1,950,000 should pretty much erase all doubt: eBay user "mrs. miniver" really does seem to have the best frickin' movie poster collection of all time and she's selling it piece by piece to movie fans with deep wallets. The set that sold for $2 million included posters for 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', Howard Hawks' 'The Thing From Another World,' 'When Worlds Collide,' 'The Man From Planet X,' 'The War of the Worlds,' 'Forbidden Planet' and 'Conquest of Space', all of which are apparently the only remaining copies.

Even if you aren't wealthy enough to partake in her wares (some prices are high enough that you can only imagine people un-ironically wearing top hats and monocles when buying them), browsing through her sales is enough to make any movie fan -- especially science-fiction buffs -- feel a little weak in the limbs. Check out some examples after the jump.

First, let's take a look at a few of the amazing posters that were part of that multimillion-dollar sale, starting with this banner for the classic 'The Day the Earth Stood Still':

Next, here's 'Forbidden Planet', one of the best sci-fi films of the 1950s. It may not be as highly regarded as 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', but this poster is as iconic as they come:

Here's my personal favorite of the bunch, the creepy and eye-catching poster for the 1951 adaptation of H.G. Wells' 'The War of the Worlds':

If your sci-fi tastes skew toward the populist, "mrs. miniver" offers plenty of original 'Star Wars' one-sheets for your buying pleasure, but why buy something you've seen before when you can put something like this one your wall:

What if you're a film snob trying to show off your knowledge of film history? Well, surely you'd be willing to lay down a couple thousand dollars for the poster for 'My Four Years in Germany.' Although not well known now, it was Warner Bros.' first film and this is the original poster from 1918!

What's wrong with spending that kind of money for some real art? If indeed someone did indeed spend two million dollars for that kind of crap.

Obviously Jacob Hall has no clue to the value of these "unique posters" and never even bothered to check out the "facts" he reports on! Mr. Hall should learn the value of research. This whole article is a joke and is the kind of crappy reporting we have become used to in the New York Times and the Huffington Post. C'mon AOL get some credible reporting for a change.

What a scam. Nothing in this whole article is true. Those posters are not one-of-a-kind and they did not sell. This blogger who made this post must be on the take to write such a mis-informed article in an attempt to push an ebay sales thread.

This is reporting at it's worst and I will now take AOL news with a grain of salt if they let people like this post this nonsense on the front page they clearly do not care about being legit.

Hey PM what took you so long.! This type of reporting is nothing new to AOL. Half the articles you find here are so badly researched as to be laughable! Welcome aboard.

This story in NOT true. The auction / BIN sale on ebay ended on March 6th, with NO buyers. This collection and other posters of seller, "mrs.miniver" (who is a man, by the way), have been listed on ebay for years.

Just shows how dumbed down our country is with entertainment and rich idiots that have nothing else to do with their money. Absolutely useless to the nation in time of hurt, no product just inflation and ignorance. Hope these items are edible cause some day it may be the only food to eat.

I'm now motivated to get into my storage unit and pull out the movie poster collection that I have. I had been wanting to frame them all, but decided I do not have enough wall space.
