Lindsay Lohan Name Change

Dina Lohan announced to PopEater’s Rob Shuter that her daughter Lindsay will be dropping the “Lohan” from her name to escape her troubled past but branding expert Dan Schawbel tells Celebuzz that the name-change won’t do much for Lindsay’s career.

“Lindsay Lohan’s attempt to rebuild her image by dropping ‘Lohan’ from her name will have no impact on how she’s treated in Hollywood and in the media,” Dan tells Celebuzz. “Celebrities are still going to ban her from their parties, and the media will still capture her worst moments.”

Lindsay is reportedly trying to repair her public image after a very rough year. Over the course of twelve months the Mean Girls actress has appeared in court numbers times, spent 14 days in jail for violating her probation from a 2007 DUI and spent two stints in court-ordered rehab. Lindsay is also due in court in April after she was charged with allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace fro a Venice Beach jewelry store.

“Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay,” Dina told PopEater. “Plus, me and [younger daughter] Ali will be officially changing our last names back to my maiden name, Sullivan.”

The Lohans have had their fair share of troubles this week: Lindsay’s father, Michael Lohan, was recently charged with misdemeanor domestic violence after allegedly beating up his ex-fiancee Kate Major.

“[Lindsay's] personal brand is still associated with drugs, partying, and jail and she won’t be able to shake it because the public has seen no improvement in her behavior in years,” Dan tells Celebuzz. “Although, she may drop her name, the public will not.”
