Forbes Rich List

It’s ironic that Forbes released its annual list of the world’s billionaires on a day when millions of Catholics are kicking off the season of Lent, a time of moderation. The Forbes rich list for 2011 features a record-breaking 1,200 billionaires and a record combined net worth of $4.5 trillion (to put that in perspective: the amount is a full $2 trillion more than Bloginity’s net worth. Topping the Forbes list is Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico, a telecom mogul worth $74 billion.

Two more familiar faces for Americans, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, round out the top three, with net worths of $56 and $50 billion, respectively. However, it is the Asia-Pacific region that is gaining the most speed in terms of net worth, as the region has 332 billionaires, although one in three billionaires are from America.
